Tuesdays from 4 to 6 pm, June 14 through Sept. 20
The Greene County farmers market will open its 22nd season Tuesday, June 14 in a new location this year. The market will be set up next to Thomas Jefferson Gardens of Greene County (TJG), 201 East Lincoln Way, on Chestnut St south of Lincoln Way.
The TJG board will serve as hosts for the weekly event and Jean Walker will be primary contact and market manager. Markets will be held Tuesdays from June 14 through Sept. 20, rain or shine. (In the event of rain, individual vendors will determine market participation.) Customers will be welcomed to shop from 4 to 6 pm.
Many longtime and new vendors indicated interest in participating at the vendor meeting held May 31. A meal served at the market is a big draw for the event vendors agreed. “If a non-profit group or business is serving a meal, that draws a crowd,“ said Jerald Deal of Deal’s Orchard, a longtime market vendor. The vendor group along with the TJG board agreed that non-profit groups and organizations would not have to pay a fee to set up a meal during farmers’ market.
Meals will be set up under the TJG pavilion adjacent to the market area. A schedule is being set up for the meals by Walker and those interested must contact her to be added. There may be other food service requirements that need to be met.
Food providers and all new vendors need to contact Walker at her cell, 515-370-1905 or through the Greene County Farmers’ Market Facebook page to get set up on the schedule and be provided with information to be a vendor.
“We’re really looking forward to this opportunity to give back to the community and provide an important service, the farmers’ market,” said Walker. “Please contact me to become a vendor or meal provider.”
